Claims Profile by NSW Region
There are five greenslip zones in New South Wales, namely Metropolitan, Outer Metropolitan, Newcastle/Central Coast, Wollongong, and Country.
The table below shows the percentage share in claims – in both number and in costs – per zone or region. You will notice that the number of claims does not exactly correspond to the percentage in cost. For instance, Metropolitan Sydney comprises 67.8% of total number of claims but only 63% of total claims cost. On the contrary, Country New South Wales comprises only 16.5% of the total number of claims but accounts for 21.8% of total claims cost. According to the MAA Annual Report, this can be attributed to relatively higher proportion of accidents in Country NSW that involve higher speeds. These kinds of accidents usually result in more severe injuries. The region “Other” refers to claims relating to accidents that either occur outside New South Wales, or where the location of the accident is unknown or not accurately recorded.
