In 2006, the Lifetime Care and Support Scheme (LCSS) was introduced. The Lifetime Care and Support Scheme pays for the treatment, rehabilitation, and care for people who have been severely injured in a motor accident.
There are 3 items that comprise the total price of a greenslip. They are (1) the base premium, (2) GST, and (3) MCIS Levy. The Lifetime Care and Support Scheme is funded by the MCIS Levy.
In 01 October 2006, the LCSS was initially made available to children under the age of 16. In 01 October 2007, the scheme was extended to include adults.
The Lifetime Care and Support Scheme is not a fault-based scheme. Therefore, cover and assistance is provided to anyone severely injured in a motor accident, regardless of role. i.e., driver at fault, pedestrian, passenger, etc.

Eligibility for this scheme are that (1) the accident happened from 01 October 2006 and onwards, and (2) you must meet the criteria for both the injury and the motor accident outlined in the Lifetime Care and Support Guidelines which you can find here.
