If your vehicle is currently registered in New South Wales, that means that you also have CTP Greenslip Insurance with it. A few weeks prior to your registration due date, you’re likely to receive a renewal notice from your current insurer. The questions you must be asking are:
Of course it’s always up to you to decide whether you prefer to stay with your current insurer. The biggest advantage of that is convenience – you save yourself the trouble of going through the process of shopping around and comparing greenslip prices.
However, comparing geenslip prices can be prove to be rewarding as well. Just recently, someone contacted us to get some assistance in getting prices. She explained that she and her husband have 3 vehicles under their names and all of these are registered with just one greenslip provider. The greenslips for the other 2 vehicles – a sedan and a wagon – were in the $800 to $900 price range. The renewal price for the 3rd vehicle was in that same ballpark as well and she just wanted to find out if there were better rates out there. We did the greenslip comparison with her, walked her through all the questions til she got the prices from all the insurers. In the end, it was found that the price differences were actually significant. There was a quote in the $500-$600 range and others in the $700 and up price range. In her case, comparing greenslips allowed her to see how her current greenslip provider’s rate compare with the other 5 insurers. This vehicle’s greenslip is not due until 2 weeks from now so she says she’ll get back to her current insurer and ask why the price is so much different from others.
Greenslip prices are affected by a lot of factors. And if you can spare a few minutes, it may be good to do a quick greenslip comparison if only for you to know what prices are available for your vehicle’s greenslip.
Of course there are other factors to consider apart from price, most notably, whether or not there is Driver-at-Fault cover, and what are the terms of the cover provided by the insurer. Comparison of Driver-at-fault is included in this website as well as the Policy Wording of the Covers provided by the insurance companies.
